HVAC in energy efficient buildings

HVAC is an acronym that stands for Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning. HVAC  provides correct air flow and meet room-by-room calculated heating and cooling loads.

During the last years, the HVAC systems have been becoming more energy efficient. This was mainly driven by rising energy costs and secondly by environmental issues. We´ve already presented several technologies for making heating, ventilation and air conditioning  systems more energy efficient, e.g. forced air systems, ventilation energy recovery and heat pumps.

The green future

How the the recesion affect the future of the buildings industry and green buildings in particular? In the short term, the green will be impacted in a very similar way as all other investments are. In the long term, the building companies will have to revise their strategies.  They have to be prepared to offer green buildings for the competitive price.

The reason for saying this is that twenty years ago, a green buildings  was just a problem solving exercise for engineers, but in 2020 the experts think  green building will be very much the norm.

And they are not talking about individual buildings but about green developments of 5000 and more homes, called eco-towns. The eco-town will be designed to meet sustainability, zero energy technologies and green public transport.
