The remarkable benefit of led lights

When it comes to saving money in the home there are many ways that this can be done effectively. One of the biggest losses we experience, which experts say can be as much as 40%, is from poorly installed windows and doors or from badly done insulation. This can be changed by installing energy efficient windows and doors, but this is not the only way you can reduce the amount of money you are spending on energy costs.

Experts indicate that on average the basic home in the United States spends approximately 25% of their energy bill on lighting. Also in the average home there are approximately 45 bulbs illuminating your life. Although there have been some remarkable advancements with lighting technology there are people who just are not seeming to understand that there are other options out there then the still traditional incandescent bulb. The best option out there right now is led lights, which cost more upfront, but they are vastly superior in every other regard.

An incandescent bulb, if ran for ten hours a day at 50 watts and an average of 0.12 cents in electricity would cost about $18.26 a month, or $821.70 a year for 45 bulbs in the standard home. Led lights on the other hand only cost $2.19 a month or $98.55 a year. That’s a savings of $723.15 per year. A good example of the real world difference is the power needed to illuminate the same space that a 40 watt incandescent bulb does. This could be achieved by using just 1.5 watts with led lights.

Again the biggest obstacle to converting all of your lights over to led lights is the upfront cost. Incandescent bulbs only cost about $1.99 a piece. Compact fluorescent bulbs are slightly more expensive at about $5 for a single bulb, whereas led lights are about $20 for just one.

Although this sounds like a big difference if you also consider that these bulbs have profoundly different life spans and ways they are manufactured you can see how the upfront cost is justified. To begin with standard lighting is constructed by using a filament, which makes them cheap to create, but also not very durable. On the other side of the issue led lights are made out of a solid piece, making them practically indestructible. This can be seen in how long they last. Traditional bulbs last anywhere from 750 hours to 30,000 hours. Led lights can last as long as 100,000 hours, which is profoundly better then anything currently out there. This means that you will have to spend much more on any of the alternatives to get the same amount of usage out of led lights compared to the other options.
